Fall Living Mindfully Retreat with John Bruna
October 1-4, or October 1-6, 2026
Attend In Person or Online
Hosted by Way of Compassion Dharma Center
We are excited to now be able to offer two options for our Fall retreat. You can attend the retreat in our usual format, from Thursday through Sunday, or extend your retreat for an addition two nights.
Our Living Mindfully retreats are offered twice a year, in the spring and fall, creating a dedicated space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. Each retreat is thoughtfully designed to help you recognize and gently shift unhealthy mental habits and patterns that often lead to emotional and physical distress.
Through practical, accessible teachings, you will develop skills that support greater clarity, resilience, and balance in everyday life. Living mindfully is not about escaping life. It is about learning how to fully engage with it. These practices can help reduce stress, strengthen your sense of self-worth, and open the door to a deeper, more sustainable sense of joy.
While rooted in Buddhist wisdom, the retreat is offered in a universal, inclusive way, honoring and supporting each person’s unique spiritual path or philosophical perspective.
At its heart, this retreat is about cultivating the inner skills needed to live a life that feels meaningful, grounded, and genuinely fulfilling.
The Blazing Mountain Retreat Center is located in Crestone, Colorado. Nestled in the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains of southern Colorado, the retreat center provides a contemplative and quiet space for undisturbed and undistracted spiritual exploration. We found it to be an ideal location for us to host our retreats.

The retreat format will include teachings, meditation, discussion, and personal time. The first half of the day will be dedicated to meditation practice. There will be silence until lunch and multiple meditation sessions of 24 minutes with breaks. The afternoons and evenings will include some meditation, discussions, question-and-answer periods, and time to connect with others. For those that choose to stay an additional two days, that time will be dedicated to additional focus on meditation and silence.
The retreat will be facilitated by our spiritual director, John Bruna. John has a particular gift for making these valuable teachings accessible and practical for our modern lifestyles. All of his teachings focus on preparing students to properly engage in authentic practice in ways that are effective and meaningful to them. He is known for his warmth and humor, as well as practicality.
